Velu Ambalam who left Melur (near Madurai) in the early 1950s to set up a restaurant in Chennai, started this hotel in 1953 on Eldams Road.Velu Military Hotel,grew up to become one of the best military hotel in the city, well-known and very popular amongst politicians and celebrities.
